The Consortium national de formation en santé

Consortium national de formation en santé (CNFS)

The Consortium national de formation en santé (CNFS) is made up of 16 colleges and universities from the Canadian Francophonie that are located outside Quebec. It was created in 2003 with funding from Health Canada provided through the Official Languages Health Program (OLHP).

Health Canada provides financial support, which adds up to the funds invested by the provinces to support the training of health professionals. CNFS colleges and universities can thus increase the number of front-line health professionals who can offer health services to Francophones living in minority communities.

Official Languages Health Program (OLHP)

The Official Languages Health Program (OLHP) is part of the federal government's Action Plan for Official Languages. The OLHP aims to improve access to health services for official language minority communities.

Governance

1
The Association des collèges et universités de la francophonie canadienne (ACUFC) brings together 22 colleges and universities. The ACUFC aims to increase access to postsecondary training programs in French and related activities offered by member institutions, while promoting further structural and sustainable changes for the collective good.
2
The Health/CNFS Committee is made up of the senior executives of CNFS member institutions. This committee, which is appointed by the ACUFC Board of Directors, is responsible for examining the strategic orientations of the health sector and issuing recommendations.
3
The National Secretariat (NS) primarily plays a coordinating role in planning and achieving the objectives of the CNFS. It implements national strategies to support recruitment, clinical training, integration of graduates, and research.
4
The Coordination and Orientation Committee brings together the coordinators of the CNFS member institutions. This committee aims to ensure cohesion within the CNFS.

CNFS Member Institutions

The 16 CNFS member colleges and universities are spread across 8 Canadian provinces where Francophone communities are in a minority situation. In total, CNFS member institutions offer more than 75 primary health training programs targeted by the CNFS.

Regional Partners

The CNFS National Secretariat works with partners in regions of Canada where there are no postsecondary educational institutions responsible for offering health training programs in French. This applies to the three Canadian Territories. These regional partners contribute to increasing access to health services in French in these areas.

Active Offer at the CNFS

Active offer and cultural competencies are fundamental to improving access to health services in French for French-speaking people living in minority communities. For CNFS member institutions, it is important to raise awareness of and train students on these concepts.
